ComPic V6 is available as a standalone product or optimised to run on a network with a server based database, such as SQL Server. The standard configuration provides a comprehensive photo ID card issue and management system. This can be enhanced by the addition of optional features and may also be linked with other products from the IDentilam suite of idcardsonline software solutions including ComPicWeb, a browser front end for data access and custom workflow.
ComPic provides a solution for full control over all aspects of card production and data management, allowing the client to configure the system exactly as required, including data fields, pass design, reporting, image capture and card encoding.

ComPicV6 gives the client the power to define how data is collected and stored, allowing you to configure the number and description of required fields, whether they should be mandatory, drop down lists, date fields etc.
If existing data is available it can be imported via a standard ComPic function (eg from an Excel spreadsheet). Data can also be exported from the ComPic database just as simply. If links are needed to other databases, eg personnel or access control system, the option is available to set up dynamic data exchange using the ComPic ODBC overlay.
User access levels are also fully definable to allow use by different parties with varying needs; this is done by limiting access to certain pages of a record, by restricting users to view records for their department/building (location) only, or by restricting access to certain system functions.
Other user friendly features include automatic duplicate checking on key fields as data is entered, advanced field configuration to set the system to default to a certain date format, capital letters, read only drop lists and so on. The system can be set to default to a particular design triggered by entering key text while completing the record so there is no need to remember the design of card to be issued to each person.
When using ComPic over a network, or linked to ComPicWeb, the Location Link option allows you to associate a user with a location – this can be a department, building, branch office etc. Once a user’s rights are linked to a certain location, their access can be to the full database or perhaps restricted to viewing records created by their own location only or viewing all records but ability to edit records from their own location only.
Style is ComPic’s graphics package, providing the necessary tools to create and edit your own card designs – a simple design can be created in a matter of minutes. The design is built by adding objects to a blank card template eg a background design (bitmap), colour logo, text, barcodes etc. Construction is made easy using standard methods for placing objects, use of placement grids, guides, object grouping, alignment etc.
Tools in Style allow the user to chose how a database field appears on the printed card, no matter how it is stored in the database eg in capitals or lower case, formatting date fields, inserting a fixed character etc to provide a consistent and uniform printed card design.
Photo ID cards are most often credit card size but other sizes are catered for as standard. The use of templates gives flexibility to adapt/re-use an existing design without needing to start from scratch each time.
All card designs are linked to the database so that appearance of specified data in a field can trigger other actions automatically, eg linking entry of key text to selection of a specific card design or by using the embellishments option, one basic card design can have any number of graphical or numerical variations triggered from the textual data.
Firewire
Firewire cameras allow for the digital capture of an image directly
from within the ComPic application software, without the need for a digitising
card; the PC/Laptop however must have a suitable Firewire or USB interface
Leisure Digital Cameras
Often the images can only be transferred using
the cameras proprietary software; ComPic software imports the images form
this type of camera through the Image Import function; images can
subsequently be cropped and enhanced if required.
Composite/S Video
These cameras can be used for live capture
of the applicant and require a digitising card to be fitted to the PC to
freeze/digitise the
image.
Internet Protocol
IP Cameras, Web based, can be used to grab images from remote locations,
either through a local network or remote internet connection. An
option within ComPic allows for the creation of a drop down list from which
the camera IP addresses can be chosen.
Image Cropping
Images captured over the web generally will need re-sizing
or cropping to
the standard ComPic format – 360 x 480 pixels. ComPic Cropper
is a native cropping utility that will resize, brighten and enhance images
prior to their being added to the ComPic database.
ComPic can print to either PVC cards or to paper inserts, up to A4 size – both can be run individually or in a batch print. User friendly filters allow sorting of records into the required batch print categories with additional features such as printing records with images only, sorting by a given field eg surname and setting the print to run ascending or descending, depending on how you want the card sorted.
If desired, a preview can be displayed of individual cards before they are printed.
The basic print history for each record is visible from the main record screen which lists the time and date of the last 4 prints from the record – alternatively, an advanced print history provides a further record of different card designs printed showing type, first and last printed dates and the total number of cards printed of each type from that record.
Batch print reports provide check lists against cards printed.

In addition to standard pre-set reports, ComPic provides a user configurable
reporting wizard with easy to use filters to select groups of records and
required formats or templates. The reporting is
very flexible and includes management options to check cards about to expire, cards
created on a particular day for a given department, print histories to
check for frequently lost cards etc. Report
results can also be represented in graphic form as bar and pie charts for
presentation purposes.
The reporting functionality extends to incorporation of photo images for single image mug shots or print outs of up to 8 records with image per A4 sheet, suitable for departmental records, fire/H&S officer posters etc.
