Doppie™ 450 printers

The Doppie™ 450 series of printers comprise a duplex (double sided printer) and a simplex (single sided printer). The only difference in the two printers is the ability to print to one or 2 sides of the card, in one pass.

Ribbons

The ribbons used in the DOPPIE™ comprise 5 or 6 colour panels

YMCKO Yellow, magenta, cyan, black, overlay (clear)– EPR-1001/N
for 350/450D/450E. Up to 250 images.
YMCKO Yellow, magenta, cyan, black, overlay, (clear)– EPR-1001/NS
for 450OS/450FE. Up to 250 images.
Resin Black. Up to 1250 images – EPR-1002
Security Overlaminate Patches. Up to 250 images – EPR-1003/L

The ‘K’ content is a carbon based black ink most suited to text and barcode printing; the machines can be configured to take best advantage of the combinations.

Easy to load cassettes provide simple and speedy changing of the ribbons; each ribbon will produce about 250 cards, full colour.

Technology
The ribbons used in the DOPPIE™ printers are dyes that are coated onto a cellophane type carrier; the process of printing is referred top as Dye Sublimation.

ribbons The Cyan/Magenta/Yellow (CMY) are combined together to produce a colour facsimile of the image mapped to the printer; the Black (K) resin is printed separately. The colours are layered one over the other and hence the absence of dots found in other print processes. The final ribbon panel is usually an ‘O’ clear overlay varnish, that forms a protective cover over the other colours.

Process
The DOPPIE™ print head heats up as the film passes over it, causing the dyes in the colours to vaporise; the colours penetrate the surface of the plastic card material (sublimation takes place) by 2-3 microns and a smooth continuous tone is printed.

Our software will enable for YMCKO to print to both sides of a card using one set of ribbon panels only – the black to the front of the card is not a true black but made up from the YMC panels; the card is flipped and uses the K to the reverse.

Alternatively the ComPic software enables the user to create barcodes onto the card and to add a blocker to the barcode using the YMC content of the ribbon – this barcode however, is not opaque and sits on the surface of the card.
